  • Health & Safety

    Micro Chip

At my place of employment, I am part of the Safety Performance Management responsible in helping the staff be and stay safety aware. The problems I am faced with are many.  Ministry of Labour inspectors with more authority than the police, when it comes to safety compliance in the workplace. Multi-lingual computer operators (Arabic, Chinese, French, Hindu, etc.) that don’t communicate very well – unless on computer. My time allotment is restricted to safety – one hour per week. Twenty percent (20%) of the work day is spent searching on the Internet for safety related information on my breaks and lunch.

So, the solution to this is addressed by breaking down the problems to its smaller components, to deal with the whole thing systematically. The objective is POMS or Production Objective Matrix Safety.

The methodology is fivefold; Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) in the Warehouse Hazard Management Information System (WHMIS) is made available to the public intranet of the organization. Categorizing the safety binder with listings in alphabetical, chronological, location and type of industrial chemicals in use, gives direction in an emergency to the required solution.

File recovery of the MSDS soft copy (PDF Lab report from the supplier) allows access to the information for quick-print and emergency reference by any computer operator. Material Safety Data Sheets have to be refreshed every three (3) years by the supplier. Updating and distribution of MSDS to safety board, first aid room, storage locations, storage managers and safety committee members, ensures compliance with safety due diligence.

In summary, small basic incremental changes, continuing at low cost, builds on expertise from the bottom up with people safety empowerment in control. Results orientated with achievable goals approached with a doctrine in focus. Strive for improvement with what people you have on-hand to tolerate challenges directed at change and semi-automation as a whole. Quality is built into the system to ensures customer retention satisfaction.

  • The Legend of Saint Nick

The following is a short list of the attributes surrounding the legend of Saint Nick otherwise known as Santa Claus, gleaned from reading and just questioning life in general.

How does he do it, is he a time-lord or something!

The number of girls worldwide is about two billion according to the last census, still in their teens. It appears Saint Nick doesn’t deal with about 80% of them because of their religious beliefs. That leaves about 20% of two billion teenage girls to take care of or about 378 million girls. Assuming there is at least one good girl in the average household, that represents 92.19 million homes that Saint Nick will attend do in due time. Saint Nick only has a little over thirty hours to complete this magical delivery of gift to the girls. Taking into account the different time zones, rotation of the planet and his traveling from east to west, Saint Nick  has over 800 houses to visit per second! Therefore, in a blink of an eye, Saint Nick has to do a lot of things per delivery. He has to park the sleigh on the roof, jump down a chimney, fill the stockings, position the bigger gifts under the tree, eat the mince pie or cookies, drink the milk or sherry, scoot back up the chimney, jump back on the sleigh and then hustle to the next house. In thirty hours, if he follows the same routine, Saint Nick will consume tons of food (this explains his overweight problem) and close to a million liters of sherry! Driving under the influence of sherry does have its implications because his judgement and excitement would be stretched to the limits of endurance before completing his once a year task. Saint Nick would have to `pause a second` to allow for the fraction of a second stopover for each house. To maintain schedule, Saint Nick would have to travel hundreds of miles per second or thousands times the speed of sound (close to the speed of light) just to reach the next house on time. That`s without allowing time for a washroom break.

I have yet to discuss the weight factor of the toys and the capabilities of the reindeers or horses used to pull the sleigh. How does he do what he`s got to do, to get the job done!

  • Music Enjoyment

    Deer ¹

A couple of new movies have been announced – Star Trek and James Bond’s Skyfall -neither have announced their music score yet  …

How is Change Progress? Growing up surrounded by the arts, why is the concept of new and old confusing? Mozart in cartoons, initiates a modernist opinion of nothing original. Art criticism, reduces to the vaguest of outlines, an opinion based on antipodal attitudes in illogical argument. Their antithesis of new and old presents, without evidence of syllogism or upgrade, a statement in pop culture; questioning any human activity’s’ importance. Historical antipodal opposition verses an aesthetic one, could be a quote from biblical poetry, on vanity – ‘Vanities of all vanities; all is vanity.’ (vanity is a form of lying) The line sounds ancient, as well as modern. It is not informative or of any importance; except maybe to the cosmetic business when used in reference to a teenager sitting in front of a vanity mirror. Pompous disguise of the plain with the new look. Old orchestral music such as P.E. Bach or the public presentation of Vivaldi played before a modern piece, begs the question, of music master like or dislikes. The new symphony composer might despise the ancients because of ignorance or training. They might find Beethoven as incompetent, or maybe they sneer at Wagner as a mildly interesting bungler, and as for Verdi and other notable Italians, they wrote the unpardonable crime of melody. The general consensus is these old masters wrote more interesting music then their new critics. They prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the old wave is the new wave – in a different context. That is the reason for their longevity compared to the stillborn creativity of the ‘one-hit wonders’ of today. Many old song authors are not worth listening to; as are many new ones. Aesthetic authenticity is not stated, they settle nothing, so maybe it is intentional. The terms ‘classical and romantic’ are new genres. They were not used, as inspiration, in the time, of the masters of music.

    Early Forensics

    1.    The first police force in the world was French of 1856, known as the marechaussee.

    2.    All sciences are now in apllication to solving crime

    3.    Inventions such as the microscope, ultra-violet rays, moulage castings, Bertillon system of measurements, ancient Chinese finger-printing, helixometer in weapon ballistics, Keeler polygraph or lie detector in interogations, scopolamine or truth serum, ink oxides to sulphides, blood tests and  toxicology use the sciences of microchemistry and with a microspectroscope, all enhance a photographic, international criminal exchange.

    4.    The perfect crime is now becoming a mere myth because science has shown that the so-called “perfect crime” was simply a matter of imperfect investigation now revealed in a glass world.

The #”White Shadow“, an early production of Alfred Hitchcock (as an asstistant director) has recently been discovered in New Zealand. A lot of quality directors, actors & actresses received their early starts with Alfred as a director-producer. He is regarded as the master of mystery and mayhem. Short story dramatizations and cold case files enacted on stage, show any arm-chair detective or rookie cop their foundation study questions; in visual context. The attributes of murder (alibi, corpse, forensics, motive, suspects, weapon, witnesses, etc.) are all studied. Sidereal time and real-time enactments, effected by historical happenings, show us it’s been done before; nothing is original in crime; masterminds are rare and few. They do get caught. He should have been knighted. Stories of criminology, were judged by the detective ‘looking for a sponsor’. Opinion: After reviewing only a few shows, it looks like he began with local drama clubs. He developed his cast and crew to be the best of the best. Text reviews have not been consulted – only his films.

Step 1:   Radio presentation to create an interest in his productions.

Step 2:   Sponsor introductions as the actor, director, etc. to back future presentations.

Step 3:   Half hour presentations (with guest directors) while auditioning the film industry.

Step 4:   One hour dramatization screening for film development later.

Step 5:   His films now have quality players who know his direction and expectations for quality.

genie ¹ Bear or Bull Price?canadamf

The markets seem to be on a slide or correction. This should bother me because of the business cycle but I welcome this correction. Now, the equation is reversed to the bull, as it reaches its new low and I initiate a buy. The example i am using is used Orbite (Aluminum) Exploration; a new source for aluminous clay. It is listed on the Canadian exchange. If I buy at or near the high price-point (because of marketing or news) and the price slides …  then it is reflects in the equation:  ( H – L ) / H * 100 = x % loss of portfolio. The new buy at the low price, far exceeds the loss from the high to the low, as proved by the equation: ( H – L ) / L * 100 = x % gain of portfolio. In other words, if I had of bought a stock at $4.00 and it slid to 11 cents, my percentage loss is: ($4.00 – .11) / $4.00 * 100 = 97.25% loss of portfolio. If I initiate a buy at the low price then, my percentage gain, on ledger and analysis, is reflected as:  ($4.00 – .11) / .11 * 100 = 3,536.4% gain of portfolio. ² Isn’t arithmetic interesting?

Therefore, the numbers speak for themselves as they move from the stock’s bull to bear price and returns to the bull price. The bull and bear markets are better expressed in pricing of individual stocks; lowering stress caused by the media. Existentialism of the markets shows “Hey, you lose if you sell”.

  • Violence in the Workplace

    Tiger6.jpg ¹

Because of the violence associated with domestic quarrels, the workplace has come under scrutiny. Where the husband and wife (common law relationship) work together in the same company, there must be a separation to protect themselves and the worker. It is a general consensus that domestic violence has the root-cause of money problems. Carrying that root-cause to the workplace, escalates the problem further. Reasonable preventative measures would include one of the two spouses in job retention. Workplace romances will be watched carefully because they have a negative impact on job performance and productivity. But here’s a note: eighty percent ( 80% ) of the cases before the MOL are obesity related. Fights over – make up!

In Ontario, Canada, it is now the law (Ministry of Labour 2010-03).

    College Library on the weekend.

I just answered this Featured Question; you can answer it too!

  • Economic Zones

    Micro Chip ¹

One purpose of British/Canadian law is to employ the courts, by employing lawyers (educated by religion searching for the truth) meant to supply an income, to the courts they represent through their City Hall. Law enforcement officers cannot become lawyers, except in defending traffic tickets. The law also gives direction to soldiers in law enforcement who do not become lawyers unless if of the profession before entry (JAG).

Talk about erroneous positions and negative comments concerning exploration or territorial economic-zone ² expansion restrictions? No wonder almost all politicians are lawyers.

Here’s another thought, a business that turns sour, up to a point, employed people legitimately. The government agency that closed it down should reinitiate, under the government (Crown) corporation banner, for the reason of employing people; now, with new direction. The blight has been removed with the cause and effect corrected. Business as usual, I would think.

Also, if three-quarters of the women on welfare are unmarried with children, and further, if they cannot take in a border or live-in to supplement their living, then the courts need to define common-law as a form of marriage to allow survival for the family. Money is the servant.

² An economic zone is an ocean region surrounding a country’s border. The United States leads the way of definition. It was a seven mile zone before the last World War but, then was expanded to 21 miles and then 200 miles. Most countries followed the US example but few can defend that territorial claim.

  • Hackers Alert !?!

    Computer Heart.jpg  ¹

    Hacking Facts:

Even Big Business can’t seem to keep common snoops out of their systems. How come? The British tabloids report in recent history, the personal details of thousands of people, have been stolen after hackers targeted a British games developer. Personal details of thousands of users, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth, passwords, IP addresses, gamer tags and biographies were snatched like candy. Even the world’s largest loan agency was targeted by a sophisticated cyber-attack earlier this year, causing a very major security breach of its systems. It’s a very important data protection principle that you shouldn’t collect excessive information or keep it longer than is necessary. The problem persists worldwide for some reason.
