¹ The Beale ciphers are three encoded documents left by Mr. Thomas Beale in 1819 & 1821, which are purported to identify a location of a fortune in buried golden treasure. The second of these three ciphers has already been decoded using the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence. The cipher tells of a fortune in buried gold and says that the exact location can be found by decoding the others. The encryption is to record only the distances starting from a known starting point in some well known document (ie: United States of America’s Declaration of Rights) to the next occurrence of that letter. Other possible clues include using a substitution cipher or displacement cipher. The Information Highway or Internet goes into a lot more detail.

Notes:
Method: Words identified in text by numbers and then cross-checked with cipher, using edit – search.
Extension: Beale Cipher Number One (Location of the Vault) has not been compared to this document source – it is comprised of three times as many characters. Maybe, I should initiate an electronic workshop checking the Library of Congress against the cipher!?! Hey, it’s a hobby!
