Who eats Rice?
It seems that polished rice effects chickens in much the same way it might humans with * beriberi. Switching to unpolished rice with hulls, returns health & vitality. Christiaan Eijkman and Frederick G. Hopkins went further and received a Nobel Prize for investigating dietary protein. He discovered that without the milk protein tryptophan in their diet, laboratory rats died. His nutritional research led to the paper, “The Practical Importance of Vitamins”. ( source: The Pinball Effect, James Burke – page 61 ) * Beriberi is a nervous system ailment caused by a deficiency of thiamin (vitamin B1) in the diet. Thiamin is involved in the breakdown of energy molecules such as glucose and is also found on the membranes of neurons. Symptoms of beriberi include severe lethargy and fatigue, together with complications affecting the cardiovascular, nervous, muscular, and gastrointestinal systems. ( source: Wikipedia )

At home, I only make wild rice. A little pricey, but the taste is great and you get more fiber, too. Whenever I eat polished white rice, I tend to get heartburn a lot easier.
